Welcome to the University of North Carolina’s Department of Emergency Medicine. Our Emergency Department consists of 40 clinical and research faculty—as well as additional adjunct faculty—involved in providing top-tier teaching, administration, research, and clinical care. Our department sees approximately 70,000 adults and 15,000 pediatric patients yearly. As one of the largest referral centers in North Carolina, we see some of the highest acuity patients in the state, with an admit rate near 30%. We are a certified Level I Trauma Center, state Burn Center, and JCHAO Stroke Center.
